Crystal Palace vs Tottenham tips and predictions: Spurs to keep pace at the top

James Maddison of Tottenham

Planet Sport Bet ambassador Robbie Savage believes Tottenham can keep their amazing start to the season going on Friday night at Crystal Palace (2000 BST)

Tottenham could go five points clear at the top on Friday night.

They’re unbeaten in their last five away Premier League London derbies - make that six.

They’re playing such good football, entertaining football. Spurs fans are happy.

Can they win the league? I don’t think they can, but five points clear at the top in a 2-0 win for Spurs.

Robbie’s Tip: Crystal Palace 0-2 Tottenham

Team news

Dean Henderson, James Tomkins and Nathan Ferguson are unavailable for Crystal Palace, meaning Sam Johnstone will continue in goal with Joel Ward at right-back.

Roy Hodgson is short of creative options with Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze out, while Jeffrey Schlupp is a doubt.

Visitors Tottenham must make do without Alfie Whiteman, Ryan Sessegnon, Ivan Perisic, Manor Solomon and Rodrigo Bentancur.

The deadly duo of Son Heung-Min and James Maddison should continue in attack after their starring roles in the 2-0 win over Fulham.

Key stats

- Crystal Palace have won just one of their last 16 Premier League games against Tottenham

- Since the start of last season, Crystal Palace have won just two of their 15 Premier League London derbies

Others bets to consider from Planet Sport

Goals from James Maddison and Son-Heung Min, with the latter also providing an assist, helped Spurs to a comfortable victory on Monday Night Football.

Ange Postecoglou’s side remain unbeaten and have won seven times either side of an impressive draw away to Arsenal.

Before their 4-0 thumping at the hands of Newcastle, Palace had offered everything you’d expect from a Roy Hodgson team.

The Eagles did not concede a goal in three consecutive matches, drawing 0-0 with Fulham and Nottingham Forest, and beating Manchester United 1-0.

It’s a commendable run, but equally notable is the lack of goals. They’ve scored seven in 10 this season against Premier League teams and rarely find the net twice.

The absence of Eze and Olise makes matters worse. The pair combined for 27 goal involvements last season, more than 50% of Palace’s total output.

Although Eze hasn’t kept up those numbers this season, he’s still made twice as many key passes as the next-best Eagle across seven appearances.

Four clean sheets in nine, including two on the road, is a solid return for a Spurs side that conceded 38 goals in 19 away games last season.

The partnership of Mickey van de Ven and Christian Romero has looked formidable while Tottenham’s high press has stifled teams.

Given Palace’s lack of creative options and somewhat immobile forward line, it’s a struggle to see who will provide an outlet under what could be constant pressure.

Ange’s men should be able to exert enough control over the game to make it five clean sheets in 10 and extend their lead at the top of the Premier League.
