Barcelona vs Sevilla tips and predictions: Raining goals at Estadi Olímpic

Joao Cancelo of FC Barcelona

Barcelona remain unbeaten this season, but Sevilla come into this Friday night clash after a convincing win at home, so there's plenty of reasons to expect a cracker at the Olympic Stadium (2000 BST).

The Catalans have 17 points after seven rounds of La Liga matches, but slipped from top spot after the last round, while Sevilla have only seven points, but they have a game in hand, away against Atletico Madrid.

Barcelona’s last two games have been very entertaining and full of suspense. Xavi's side managed to come from behind on both occasions, with goals scored towards the end of the match. First at home they managed a 3-2 win against Celta Vigo, after being two goals behind until the 81st minute.

Then on Tuesday night, the Blaugrana team really struggled in the Balearic Islands, and only managed a 2-2 draw against Mallorca, after being behind twice. The young Fermin Lopez grabbing a point in the 75th minute for the Catalans.

Barcelona’s have certainly enjoyed finding the net this season. The fewest goals scored in their last six games came in the away game against Osasuna (2-1). The Catalans have scored 18 goals in seven rounds this season, and there is an average of 3.7 goals per game scored in their La Liga games this season.

In their last nine official games played at home, Barcelona have eight wins and one draw (1-2 against Real Sociedad on May 20th).

Sevilla were on fire in their last match in Tuesday night at home, when they won 5-1 against Almeria, in a regional derby in which they had a 3-0 lead after 38 minutes.

For the team led by Jose Luis Mendilibar it was only the second win of the season, the other one being also at home - 1-0 against Las Palmas.

The last time Sevilla managed a win away was back in May at Valladolid. The Andalusians started to recover after a poor start, and they now have four consecutive competitive games without defeat.

Five of Sevilla’s six games in La Liga this season were draw at half time.

The Andalusians will no doubt look to get past the problems they have in the league against the current champions, but prospects look bleak.

Last season, Barcelona won both games against Sevilla with the same 3-0 scoreline. Barca have five wins and one draw in the last six games against Sevilla.

Sevilla’s last win in an official game against Barcelona was back in February 2021 in the Copa del Rey, while their last win in La Liga against the Catalans was in 2015.

Away from home things are even worse, as Sevilla’s last away win against Barcelona in the league was in 2002.

We are not expecting it to get any better for Sevilla either, another defeat and it could be a heavy one too. Although they could grab a goal.
