Will Robert Lewandowski feature in El Clasico? Barcelona star set for spell on sidelines with injury

Barcelona’s superstar forward Robert Lewandowski is a major doubt for this month's El Clasico after picking up an ankle injury.

The Polish international was forced off the field during Barca’s 1-0 Champions League win against FC Porto.

Ferran Torres replaced the striker after just 34 minutes and went on to score the winning goal.

Lewy, who scored four times in his last six games, certainly won’t feature in Barcelona’s away trip to Granada on Sunday.

The Pole is also expected to be out of action for the home clash with Athletic Bilbao and the Champions League group clash against Skakhtar Dontesk.

Real Madrid will be the opposition on September 28, though Lewandowski is now a major doubt for the much-anticipated fixture.

In a short statement, Barcelona said: "Tests carried out this morning have revealed that Robert Lewandowski has a left ankle sprain. He is out and his recovery will determine his availability."

The injury news also comes at a bad time for the Polish national team who are currently second-bottom of their European Championship qualifying group.

The Poles, who recently sacked Portuguese manager Fernando Santos and replaced him with Michal Probierz, have amassed just two wins from their opening five games.

Poland simply have to win their next two qualifying fixtures against the Faroe Islands and Moldova in order to maintain their qualifying hopes.

However, the new head coach of the national side will now have to find a way of securing victory without the aid of his record-breaking forward.
