Latest Premier League transfer news: West Ham veteran Ben Johnson leaves to sign with Ipswich

Ben Johnson has parted ways with West Ham after 17 years at the club, to sign for newly-promoted Premier League side Ipswich.

Johnson, who joined the Hammers at the age of seven, has signed a four-year deal at Portman Road.

"Ben is a player who fits the profile we like to bring to the club," manager Kieran McKenna told the Ipswich website.

"He is a young and talented defender with good technical quality, as well as excellent physical attributes.

"Ben also has a good amount of Premier League experience for his age and he is hungry to take the next step in his career."

Johnson made 109 first-team appearances for West Ham, 69 of those coming in the Premier League.

In other news, Aston Villa have announced the double signing of Enzo Barrenechea and Samuel Iling-Junior from Juventus.

Barrenechea, 23, started his career in his native Argentina before moving to Europe with Swiss outfit Sion.

London-born defender Iling-Junior, 20, started his career in the Chelsea and Academy and has been capped by England at Under-21 level.

Newcastle have completed the permanent signing of England Under-21 defender Lewis Hall from Chelsea.

Hall, 19, spent last season on loan at St James' Park and made 22 appearances, scoring two goals.

Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe said: "Lewis was a very good addition to our squad last season and we have been delighted with his progress and his contribution to the team.

"I'm very pleased to continue working with him. As well as being a talented player, he has a great attitude towards the game and to his own development and I'm excited for this next part of his journey in a Newcastle United shirt."

Newcastle had earlier recruited Greece goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos from Nottingham Forest, with midfielder Elliot Anderson going in the other direction in signing a five-year deal at the City Ground.

Finally, Gambia winger Yankuba Minteh, 19, also departed Tyneside to sign a five-year contract at Brighton.

"He is an exciting attacking player with incredible speed," said Brighton technical director David Weir.

"He had a very impressive (loan) campaign with Feyenoord, gaining experience in both the Champions League and Europa League."
