Pep Guardiola slams Premier League's stoppage-time rule changes
Pep Guardiola admits the new Premier League rules aimed at curbing time-wasting are "annoying".
Pep Guardiola has criticised the "frustrating" new directives from referees aimed at addressing time-wasting during matches.
During the Community Shield match between Manchester City and Arsenal on Sunday, several new refereeing directives were introduced, which included extending added time and prohibiting a player who received on-field treatment from returning for 30 seconds.
As a result of these changes, more than 12 minutes of extra time were included at the conclusion of the game at Wembley Stadium.
Originally, only eight minutes were scheduled, but this was prolonged after both Thomas Partey and Kyle Walker sustained head injuries in the late stages of the match.
In addition to the Community Shield lasting for over 100 minutes, almost all of this weekend's EFL Championship matches exceeded the 100-minute mark.
"It was annoying but we have to get used to it. I had the feeling, not because we were winning 1-0, but that not much happened to extend it for eight minutes," said Guardiola.
"It's a good question for the international board and people because they don't consult with managers and players and we have to accept it with this amount of games. Now the games will be 100 minutes. Nothing happened today and there was eight minutes.
"They extend for goals. If you score 4-3 you put 45 seconds for seven goals, tomorrow morning at 9am I am [still] here playing."
