Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola ready to ramp up attacking options in the summer

Pep Guardiola on the sidelines for Manchester City vs Norwich

Pep Guardiola has confirmed Manchester City will try again in the summer to sign a new striker and revealed his own future at the Etihad Stadium has yet to be decided.

The Premier League leaders welcome city rivals Manchester United on Sunday (16:30 KO GMT) hoping to repel the challenge of rejuvenated title-challengers Liverpool in second place.
Lining up against City on Sunday will be a player Guardiola tried to sign last summer, the veteran Portugal forward, Cristiano Ronaldo, while the 51-year-old was also thwarted in his long-running attempts to sign Tottenham striker and England talisman, Harry Kane.
City are still in the hunt for Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup success this season but Guardiola is in no doubt he needs to beef up his attacking options, with Borussia Dortmund's Erling Haaland now top of his wish-list.
"I think the club needs a striker, definitely," Guardiola told reporters.
"You say we play fantastically well without a striker because we are winning. When we are not winning, you say we need a striker, (that) I'm naive.
"'How do these guys play without a striker? In the Premier League you have to play with a striker'.
"So, we need a striker, I think the club is going to try."
Guardiola has guided City to three Premier League title wins during his tenure but Champions League success has so far eluded him and his future at the Etihad has yet to be resolved.
His Liverpool counterpart, Jurgen Klopp, on Friday said he will stay at Anfield until at least 2024 but refused to commit beyond that, while Guardiola, who has a contract at City until the summer of 2023, said a number of factors will help him make a decision on whether to stay.
"I have to see if the players follow me, we have success, and I'm not going to say if I'll stay," he said. "We have to see if we can do it together and everyone is involved in that. I have to feel it.
"For me it would be easy to sign three or four more years but we will see what happens. We are together and we have to see until the end of the season."
