Newcastle United close in on record breaking £58m deal for Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak
Newcastle United are poised to smash their all-time transfer record with the club on the verge of signing Alexander Isak from Real Sociedad.
The Magpies are said to be in advanced talks with the La Liga club and are expected to splash in the region of £58million to get the deal over the line, according to Sky Sports.
Manager Eddie Howe has been looking to strengthen in the attacking department and a deal looks close with Dean Ashworth (Newcastle's sporting director) and Steve Nickson (the club's head of recruitment) both working on the transfer in Spain.
Isak arrived at Real Sociedad in the summer of 2019 from Borussia Dortmund and has gone on to score 44 goals in 132 appearances.
The 22-year-old has also made his mark on the international scene and bagged nine goals in 37 outings for Sweden.
Should the deal go over the line, Isak will become Newcastle's fourth summer arrival.
The Swede will follow in the footsteps of Seven Botman, Matt Targett and Nick Pope.
Isak would also become the most expensive player signed by the North East club, with the deal eclipsing the £40million transfer for Joelinton back in 2019.
The player was in action for Sociedad last weekend as Los Txuri-Urdin fell to a 4-1 defeat against Barcelona.
Isak scored the only goal of the game, marking his first of the season.
