Xavi Hernandez believes Real Madrid 'have the edge' despite Barcelona victory

Barcelona maintained their impressive unbeaten run in the Copa del Rey at Santiago Bernabeu with a slender 1-0 victory over Real Madrid in the first leg of the semi-final tie on Thursday.

The Blaugrana produced an excellent defensive display to hold off Los Blancos, who failed to register a single shot on target. However, despite the victory, Barcelona legend Xavi Hernandez admitted that his side struggled to keep possession of the ball.

Eder Militao’s first-half own goal gave Xavi’s side an advantage to take back to the Nou Camp with victory on the road.

"We have fought until the end and defended very well. But it has been difficult for us to win duels to have possession," said Hernandez to media after the match.
Despite labelling Real Madrid as favourites pre-match, Hernandez still believes that Los Blancos have the edge in the tie.
"The 0-1 gives us a certain advantage, but we are going to have to compete very well against a very strong Real Madrid side. I still see Madrid as a favourite," added Hernandez.
Real Madrid dominated possession for the majority of the game but failed to convert their chances. Their best opportunity came from Rodrygo in the second half, who missed a shot just outside the penalty area.
Carlo Ancelotti, the Real Madrid manager, felt that his side played well despite the loss, but admitted that the result was disappointing.
"It is a very bad result. We played well on our part and with intensity, but we lacked the end product," Ancelotti told reporters after the clash.
Real Madrid will need to regroup quickly and put the result behind them as they travel to face Real Betis in La Liga on Sunday. Meanwhile, Barcelona will look to continue their winning ways as they take on Valencia in La Liga on Sunday at Camp Nou.
The second leg of the semi-final tie will take place at the Camp Nou in five weeks' time, and both teams will be looking to secure a place in the Copa del Rey final.
