Next Leicester City manager betting odds: Man Utd legend tipped to replace sacked Steve Cooper
Just 12 matches into the new season, Leicester City have made the bold decision to part ways with manager Steve Cooper.
A 2-1 defeat to Chelsea over the weekend proved to be the final straw for the Leicester hierarchy who are only the second club to pull the managerial trigger this season.
Cooper departs the King Power stadium with the Foxes sitting in 16th spot. The club picked up two victories from 12 Premier League games and amassed 10 points during his reign.
Leicester lost four of their last five matches across all competitions but did face some stiff opposition during that time, including two games with Manchester United, a derby against high-flying Nottingham Forest and the recent clash with Chelsea.
The question now turns to who will take over the vacancy. Here, we take a closer look at the leading candidates for the managerial hot-seat.
(Odds are correct at the time of writing)
Ruud Van Nistelrooy – 5/4
Ruud Van Nistelrooy has jumped to the top of the list following his impressive run as Manchester United’s interim boss.
The Dutchman was unbeaten in four matches, winning three of them and picking up two big wins over Leicester.
The 48-year-old missed out on the permanent role at Old Trafford but could return to the Premier League limelight should the Foxes opt to hire the former Netherlands star.
David Moyes – 3/1
David Moyes is not everybody’s cup of tea, but he certainly has a track record of bringing stability.
West Ham fans were not impressed with the style of play, but a European trophy and a winning percentage of just under 45% is not too shabby.
If Leicester want to stay up, Moyes will be a strong contender. But if they want attractive football, the Scot won’t be in consideration.
Graham Potter – 7/2
Since his underwhelming stint at Chelsea, Graham Potter has been waiting on the sidelines, waiting for the perfect opportunity.
Just like Goldilocks, some jobs were too hot and some too cold. However, Leicester seems like a job that’s somewhere in the middle and could be right up Potter’s street.
Mark Robins – 12/1
Some Coventry fans are still mourning the departure of their beloved Mark Robins. During his near seven-year run at the club, the manager took the Sky Blues from League Two to the edge of Premier League.
A play-off final defeat to Luton Town back in 2023 marked the high point of Robins’ Coventry career. The following season, City reached the FA Cup semi-final only to be knocked out by Manchester United on penalties.
This season, Robins has struggled to get results and it ultimately cost him his job. Nevertheless, the 54-year-old remains a top contender for the Leicester vacancy.
Lee Carsley – 16/1
Interim England boss Lee Carsley has completed his job with the Three Lions, sealing promotion back to the top tier of the UEFA Nations League.
Running the national side for six matches certainly raised Carsley’s profile – something that could result with a Premier League job should the Foxes opt for a surprise appointment.
