Borussia Dortmund eye January return for Jadon Sancho amid Man United discord

Manchester United's Jadon Sancho

Borussia Dortmund are said to be contemplating a January lifeline for former player Jadon Sancho as his relationship with Manchester United becomes increasingly strained.

According to a reliable source at ESPN, despite Dortmund's earlier public denial of any interest in the winger, behind the scenes, the Bundesliga side are reportedly keeping a watchful eye on the situation and could explore a short-term loan deal until the end of the season.

However, financial considerations must align for such a move, potentially requiring United to subsidize a portion of Sancho's colossal £300,000-per-week wage.

Sancho, who previously plied his trade with Dortmund from 2017 to 2021, still holds a special place in the club's heart and maintains contact with Dortmund's coach, Edin Terzic. This connection has fuelled Dortmund's potential interest in reuniting with the 23-year-old talent.

The current discord between Sancho and Manchester United, exacerbated by his falling out with manager Erik ten Hag, has led the Red Devils to consider offers for the player in the January transfer window. United's stance is a show of support for Ten Hag's commitment to squad discipline.

Sancho's exile from the first-team squad has been ongoing since August after he publicly disputed Ten Hag's decision to drop him for the 3-1 defeat to Arsenal on September 3. As per reliable sources at ESPN, United have made it clear that they will not entertain any further engagement with Sancho until he offers a formal apology. Nevertheless, with over six weeks having passed since the incident, many believe that any apology at this point may carry little weight.

There's a growing sense within the club that, as long as Ten Hag remains in charge, Sancho's career at Old Trafford is effectively over. Some senior players within the dressing room have been unsupportive of the winger, and his closest associates are said to have encouraged him to extend an apology.

United's readiness to take a financial hit to facilitate Sancho's departure in January reflects the severity of the situation. Sancho's arrival from Dortmund in 2021, in a transfer deal valued at £73 million, binds him to Old Trafford until at least June 2026. However, the disharmony in the current setup makes his exit a priority.

As the January transfer window draws near, the future of Jadon Sancho remains uncertain, with Dortmund potentially offering an escape route as discord continues to brew at Manchester United.
