Things started relatively well for Amorim’s side in Spain last week, even if the host’s 61% possession offered a warning sign of their technical ability. 

Sociedad struggled to convert it into chances while Bruno Fernandes, Joshua Zirkzee, and Diogo Dalot were left to rue missed chances.

The Red Devils found clear-cut chance creation an impossible task in the second half, even though Zirkzee’s strike from the edge of the box handed them a 1-0 lead.

Real spent the remainder of the game on the front foot and after Mikel Oyarzabal levelled from the spot, Orri Oskarsson squandered the chance to bag a famous win.

It was not a vintage performance from the Basque club, yet it was still arguably enough to beat United on the night, which spells trouble.

The return of Zubimendi will add some steel and structure to a midfield that may be hard to break down at Old Trafford, which also has the technical ability to turn the ball over and craft openings.

This fixture boasts a history of at least one side struggling to score, a trend which was broken last week at the Reale Arena.

It’s not beyond the realms of possibility that the visitors could battle their way to a 0-0 draw, though it’s far likelier that United score at some point regardless of how this game goes.

Individual talent, by which we largely mean Bruno Fernandes, continues to lift them out of the gigantic holes they dig themselves.

Mikel Oyarzabal to hit the target

Oyarzabal is a crafty operator and while he isn’t likely to be seen sprinting beyond the United defence, he will find space to spearhead Sociedad’s counter attacks.

He’s also the spot-kick taker for the Spanish club which, as we saw last week, could present him with an easy sight of goal.
