Bayern Munich face Friday night hurdle after international break chaos

Thomas Tuchel

The Bundesliga roars back to life as FC Koln lock horns with Bayern Munich at RheinEnergieStadion this Friday night.

However, the joy of football's return is tainted by the aftermath of the international break, leaving Bayern's coach, Thomas Tuchel, critical and facing challenges.

Tuchel, addressing the press before the clash, expressed his dissatisfaction with the scheduling, attributing it to television rights. "It's probably because of the TV rights. This is the second time we've played on a Friday," lamented Tuchel. He highlighted the tight schedule affecting his international players, Min-Jae Kim and Alphonso Davies, who are just returning, emphasizing the adverse impact from a sporting perspective.

Despite the inconvenience, Tuchel was quick to distance himself from making excuses, stating, "If I say that as a coach, it's immediately seen as an excuse. I don't want to make excuses. It's just an extremely unfortunate situation for the teams that have a lot of international players. We have to adapt."

In coping with the situation, Bayern have decided to arrive on Friday morning, allowing the players a brief respite at home. Tuchel's focus remains resolute: "We want to win, and that's how we'll prepare."

The coach also provided an injury update, confirming the absence of key players. "Matthijs de Ligt is out, Jamal Musiala is out, we have to be careful with Raphael Guerreiro. He's had some problems, so we'll see." Tuchel labelled Guerreiro a doubt and underlined the scrutiny on international players with a heavy workload, including Konrad Laimer, Minjae Kim, and Alphonso Davies. The starting line-up for the game remains uncertain, with Tuchel indicating a late decision.

As the Bundesliga standings currently stand, Bayern occupy the second spot with 29 points after 11 matches. Koln, on the other hand, find themself in a challenging 17th position with only six points. At the summit are Bayer Leverkusen, leading the pack with 31 points.

The clash between FC Koln and Bayern Munich promises to be a spectacle, with both teams navigating the post-international break challenges. Will Bayern overcome the hurdles and secure victory, or can Koln capitalize on the scheduling chaos? The RheinEnergieStadion awaits the answer as the Bundesliga drama unfolds on Friday night.
