Barcelona sign Girona midfielder Oriol Romeu as Sergio Busquets replacement
Barcelona have reinforced their midfield by signing Girona's Oriol Romeu.
Barcelona have officially announced the acquisition of defensive midfielder Oriol Romeu from Girona.
Following the departure of club legend Sergio Busquets, who left after his contract expired to join Inter Miami in the MLS, Barcelona have been actively searching for a replacement this summer.
The club have now secured the signing of Oriol Romeu, who previously spent eight years at Barcelona, featuring for the Barcelona B team and making two appearances for the senior squad before moving to Chelsea in 2011.
According to sources, Romeu's transfer fee amounts to €5million, with additional add-ons included. As part of the deal, young midfielder Pablo Torre has been loaned to Girona until the conclusion of the 2023/24 season.
Romeu becomes Barcelona's fourth signing of the summer, following the acquisitions of Inigo Martinez and Ilkay Gundogan on free transfers. The club also recently confirmed the signing of Brazilian talent Vitor Roque, who will join in 2024.
Barcelona intend to continue their active summer in the transfer market. Club president Joan Laporta has confirmed plans to secure a new right-back and one more midfielder.
Laporta has expressed his desire to finalise a deal for Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva, who is also a target for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).
