Ansu Fati was on trial at Real Madrid before joining Barcelona
Barcelona forward Ansu Fati, who is rightfully considered one of the brightest young prospects in Spanish football, confirmed he underwent trials at Real Madrid before signing for the Catalans.
Fati joined the Barcelona youth set-up from Sevilla in 2012 and worked his way up through the youth teams until he broke in to the La Liga squad in 2019, making 55 appearances for the side ever since.
In an interview with France Football, the 20-year-old Fati admitted that before joining Barcelona's La Masia academy he had trials at their fierce rivals Real Madrid.
"I participated in futsal competitions throughout Spain with Peloteros," Fati explained.
"We won a tournament in Madrid, where Atletico, Real Madrid, Getafe attended. Before signing for Barca, I had trials at Real Madrid.
"At the time, the club had no residence to accommodate its young players," Fati added.
"After discussing it with my father, we decided that Barca was the best option, with La Masia, both for football and for my education."
Despite not been a regular starter for Barcelona under coach Xavi Hernandez, Fati is hoping to get a lot more game time in the second half of the La Liga campaign, following the World Cup break.
On 31 December, Barcelona will be in La Liga action when they host Espanyol in the Catalan derby.
