2024 World Grand Prix: Sunday's free darts tips, best bets, schedule and results
The Darts World Grand Prix has reached the final and Mike De Dekker looks to pull off another shock when he takes on reigning champion Luke Humphries on Sunday night.
Luke Humphries is potentially six sets away from becoming only the third player to successfully defend the World Grand Prix title.
Humphries would join esteemed company in the form of Michael Van Gerwen and Phil Taylor, but Mike De Dekker will be determined to stop the Humphries dominance.
De Dekker has picked up several high profile scalps over the week in Leicester, including two-time world champion Gary Anderson, UK Open champion Dimitri Van den Bergh and two-time World Grand Prix winner James Wade..
However the Belgian will have a big task on his hands, as Humphries has been in imperious form which was emphasised by his 5-0 whitewash of Ryan Joyce in the semi-final.
Cool Hand Luke averaged 100.3 in the semi-final and produced eight 180's in a brilliant performance. Meanwhile, The Real Deal averaged only 86.32 in his clash with compatriot Van den Bergh.
The 28-yeear-old Belgian has had a brilliant run and has jettisoned himself into the world's top 30, but we think it will be one step too far for him given Humphries total dominance of televised tournaments in the last 12 months.
World Grand Prix - Sunday tips
Luke Humphries to win, have the most 180's and highest checkout- 7/4
Luke Humphries to hit a 180 in each set- 12/1
Mike De Dekker under 7.5 180's- 2/1
Who will win the 2024 World Grand Prix?
Luke Humphries will be looking to defend the title he won 12 months ago, while there’ll be plenty of dangerous opponents in the way for Cool Hand.
But with Michael Smith, Michael van Gerwen, Luke Littler and Gary Anderson out of the way, the world number one can see a clear path to the final.
With a unique double-in format, it provides players with a chance to reintroduce themselves to set play, with the annual Ally Pally bash now firmly in the sights of the world’s finest.
Here at Planet Sport, we make our predictions for the World Grand Prix including overall winner, an each-way pick and quarter-winners.
World Grand Prix tips
Luke Humphries to win
Since winning this event last year, Humphries has been dominating the darting world, winning the World Championship, the Grand Slam and the World Matchplay.
Given his number one ranking, Humphries has one of the easier-looking paths to Sunday’s final, with the likes of Raymond Van Barneveld and Jonny Clayton as potential opponents. After that there could be a mouthwatering semi-final with Littler, should the 17-year-old get through his tough test with Rob Cross in round one.
Cool Hand faces Stephen Bunting first up and the Bullet had a disappointing week in the Players Championship with three final defeats in a row including one to Cool Hand.
Humphries has become the set play king and he will avoid the likes of Van Gerwen and Anderson until the final, should he make it that far, so 4/1 looks a good price for another Humphries televised title.
