Peter Windsor: Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc should contemplate move to Alpine
Formula 1 pundit Peter Windsor recently speculated on the possibility of Charles Leclerc, the talented Monégasque driver, making a move to Alpine if he ever decides to leave Ferrari.
Formula 1 pundit Peter Windsor has raised the possibility of Charles Leclerc considering a move to Alpine if he decides to part ways with Ferrari.
Leclerc's underwhelming performance at Ferrari has sparked numerous discussions regarding his future and potential destinations. Windsor has now identified another team as a potential option.
During a discussion on his YouTube channel, the F1 pundit highlighted Leclerc's frustration, particularly due to Ferrari's inability to provide competitive cars for their drivers.
Windsor speculated that Leclerc might be desperate enough to consider joining teams like Alpine and said: "The big figure there [Ferrari] is Charles Leclerc. Without any doubt at all, the guy must be unbelievably frustrated and very annoyed.
"And he will be wanting to either Ferrari magically get their act together and the car would be really quick, or he may even be thinking, you know, Alpine might be better than this lot in terms of my driving and doing what I can do. I mean, look at them-top 10 every Q3 now. He might be thinking like that. He might be that desperate."
Windsor clarified that he was not diminishing the merits of Alpine but rather speculating on Leclerc's eagerness to depart from Ferrari.
He acknowledged that if Ferrari were to improve their performance, Leclerc would likely continue working with them. He added, "I'm not saying that Alpine is a massively bad thing to do, don't take that out of context. All I'm saying is that he might be that desperate to leave Ferrari. Now, it could well be that Ferrari are slowly gathering some traction and some pace, and the next upgrade is going to be really efficient in the tunnel, and Charles could be working around that.
"But as I've just said, you know, I think the problem with Charles is that he has not got massively good driver management around him."
As the Formula 1 circus heads to the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal for the Canadian Grand Prix this weekend, the future of Leclerc remains an intriguing topic within the paddock.
