Carlos Sainz: Ferrari's Formula 1 upgrade package opens doors for the future
Carlos Sainz insists that Ferrari's latest upgrade package aims to create future opportunities rather than providing an immediate performance improvement, according to the Scuderia driver.
Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz has emphasized that the team's latest upgrade package aims to create opportunities for the future rather than yielding immediate performance gains.
During the Spanish Grand Prix, the Scuderia introduced a significant upgrade, replacing their aggressively scalloped sidepods with a more conventional design, although retaining reduced cut-outs.
Sainz, who secured second place in qualifying for his home race, unfortunately faced challenges with tire degradation, causing a setback for Ferrari.
Speaking to the media, Sainz commended the impact of the updates, stating, "The new package was intended to primarily enhance performance in medium-to-low-speed corners, and in that regard, we have certainly witnessed progress."
He clarified, "This upgrade represents more of a shift in our working range rather than a major performance boost. The main objective was to explore different avenues of development, rather than suddenly gaining half a second."
"I believe it is fulfilling its purpose and functioning well," Sainz concluded.
He also expressed the team's aspirations, saying, "We also aim to enhance the predictability and drivability of the car, making it easier to put together a fast lap. Hopefully, we will make strides in that direction."
"Our high-speed performance has been lacking since the start of the season," Sainz admitted. "We have been struggling with balance and bouncing issues since Australia, and we want to address these concerns. Surprisingly, our performance in low-speed corners has been quite good."
Looking ahead, the upcoming Formula 1 event is the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal, scheduled to take place from June 16 to 18.
