Charles Leclerc targets Ferrari's resurgence in Formula 1 season's latter half
Charles Leclerc has articulated Ferrari's aspirations for the rest of this year's Formula 1 campaign.
Ferrari have unveiled their ambitions for the remainder of the ongoing Formula 1 season.
The team, which initially held high hopes, faced a challenging start to the 2023 campaign, falling short of its initial aspirations.
Despite claiming the top spot on the podium last year following two arduous seasons, the Maranello-based outfit had set its sights on a championship challenge.
However, Red Bull's dominance has been undeniable, sweeping all 12 races thus far in 2023 and relinquishing pole position only twice.
Charles Leclerc has showcased the team's prowess with three podium finishes, securing third places in Azerbaijan and Belgium, along with a commendable second-place finish in Austria. Yet, Ferrari has found itself in fourth place in the Constructors' Championship, trailing Red Bull, Mercedes, and Aston Martin.
Presently, the Scuderia lags 56 points behind Mercedes in the quest for second place in the standings. As they strive for an improved second half of the season, Leclerc remains optimistic about clinching the runner-up spot from their competitors.
Leclerc articulated, "A realistic goal initially would be to secure the second position in the Constructors', a formidable challenge, indeed." In a conversation with the media, he affirmed, "McLaren is now a contender, and Mercedes remains steadfastly competitive. Though Aston Martin has encountered setbacks lately, I have full confidence in their resurgence. This is the bull's eye we're aiming for."
Leclerc also disclosed the team's plans for the future, stating, "We have a series of enhancements scheduled for the latter phase of the season. These updates, slated for deployment, hold the potential to be pivotal in our pursuit of these targets."
Currently, Formula 1 is in the midst of a summer hiatus and is set to resume action with the Dutch Grand Prix on August 28 at the Circuit Zandvoort.
