Andrea Stella: McLaren package still has unrealised potential
Andrea Stella is confident the McLaren design can continue to make progress this season.
McLaren's recent car revamp has unlocked more development potential in its wind tunnel, and the team is already preparing further improvements.
The Woking-based team surprised many at the British Grand Prix, where Lando Norris qualified on the front row and finished second behind Max Verstappen.
This was thanks to a raft of recent upgrades, and team principal Andrea Stella says that there is more to come.
As part of its original plan, McLaren is introducing an update to the MCL60 at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
The team says that further changes will almost certainly follow at future races, as it looks to build on its recent momentum.
Stella is confident that McLaren can continue to improve the MCL60, and he believes that the team is still "only scratching the surface" of its potential.
He says that the team is "working hard" to find more performance, and he is excited to see what the future holds.
"For Hungary, we have some further updates that will help more from the point of view of trying to improve the race pace. These will be available to both drivers," said Stella.
"But like any other team, we will carry on delivering some upgrades to the following races. And this is also thanks to the fact that, once we started redesigning the car, we kind of unlocked performance. And, through iterations, we keep seeing the aerodynamic development being quite effective.
"As soon as you see that a project is mature enough to deliver, you press the go button and you go, so there will be some more stuff coming even after Hungary."
