Newton Abbot best bet: Belgarum to take the glory for Joe Tizzard

Newton Abbot

There's a rare summer jumps meeting at Newton Abbot on Sunday and the Tipstrr camp are attracted to the final race of the day, a competitive handicap chase.

17:20 Newton Abbot: Book Our Winning Post Restaurant Handicap Chase (Class 5) (2 miles 5 furlongs)

Sean Bowen is aboard the aptly named market leader Limerick Leader and the jockey, who narrowly missed out on the champion jockey title, could have a positive impact on the gelding's chances.

This is his first race since moving to Olly Murphy's yard and he's fresh following a two-month break due to wind surgery.

The gelding finished fourth at Perth in his last outing and has won before in his career, but he is yet to win over larger obstacles and given he's fresh we think there's better value elsewhere.

For those looking for each-way value then Lelant is the best option, with a field of 14 and odds of 11/1 a decent profit could be on the cards.

He finished third over this course and distance last time out and also came third at Stratford two starts ago so he is certainly one to watch in terms of the places.

The Tipstrr camp have thrown all their eggs in one basket though and have opted for Joe Tizzard's Belgarum.

He is one of the only contenders who has picked up a win in recent times, getting over the line at Fontwell two starts ago, with runs over this course and distance either side of that victory, finishing third and fourth respectively.

Joe Tizzard is an experienced trainer and has a 15 percent strike rate in chases over the years, while jockey Brendan Powell looks an astute booking as he has the exact same strike rate in chases too.

Belgarum is the one to watch here as Limerick Leader may not be able to pull out a good performance after his break.

Suggested best bet: Belgarum in the 17:20 at Newton Abbot
