Cheltenham each-way racing tip: Tiger Jet ready take on White Rhino

Last but not least on Friday’s Cheltenham card, this handicap over a testing three miles should give us a few clues as to which staying hurdlers might be worth keeping an eye on as the season unfolds.

If recent form is anything to go by, then any horse that finishes ahead of White Rhino here will have had to have put in a stellar performance against this in-form winner.

The seven-year-old from the Greenall-Guerriero yard has made impressive progress since being switched to handicapping in February, finishing ahead of all but two of his 76 rivals in six handicap outings (four wins, two seconds).

He was last seen running a cracking race to finish a close runner-up behind American Sniper over a shorter 21-furlong trip here four weeks ago, and he should relish this step up in distance.

If the favourite lives up to that tag and only the minor placing are up for grabs, then the likes of Captain Morgs and Hermino Aa look capable of outracing their tasty odds, but perhaps most likely to put in a challenge is Brian Ellison’s Tiger Jet, who finished last season with a career-best win at Haydock, and has been making quiet progress this term.

Last season’s jockey Henry Brooke has been replaced by Harry Cobden for recent rides, and after pulling up last month on season debut, the seven-year-old gelding looked much more his old self just two weeks later, when third of nine at this track, finishing just a neck behind the re-opposing runner-up Gyenyame.

He [Tiger Jet] ran a cracker last time where he stayed on really well.” said Cobden in his regular Planet Sport Bet Blog.

“I don’t think he properly handled the soft ground but I know how to ride him a bit better now, so, with a very light weight, he should be competitive.

Tiger Jet was also available at a double-digit price last night, but those odds have come in markedly to around the 7/1 mark at the time of writing, and if Cobden can coax more improvement out of his ride, then he could justify that market support with another frame finish.
