Carlisle best bet: Born Ruler to win the Cumberland Plate

There's plenty of value to be had in Carlisle's showpiece race of the year, with 12 having their eye on winning the coveted Cumberland Plate.

15:05 Carlisle: Stablemate By AGMA Cumberland Plate Handicap (1 mile 3 furlongs)

The Cumberland Plate is a race that is eagerly anticipated by local racegoers and it has finally arrived with plenty of contenders for the crown.

With 12 coming to post, the Tipstrr camp have been attracted to a race that offers plenty of betting value in a field that's led by current favourite Sea The Thunder.

Ralph Beckett's charge has found the first three in each of his last four outings, with the colt finishing second at Leicester last time out albeit over a slightly longer trip.

He has had the dependable Rossa Ryan onboard for all four of those outings, however there's a change of jockey for this one with Hector Crouch in the saddle for his outing in Cumbria.

William Buick has a strong chance of landing a win with Gallant Lion, who has attracted plenty of interest in the betting.

While Alan King's gelding has only made the frame once this season, he clearly has the talent, which was demonstrated in a four-race winning run last season.

Buick has had a fantastic year so far, winning 20 percent of his rides since the turn of the year, and his presence only enhances Gallant Lion's chances.

For those looking for each-way value, Ludo's Landing looks like a potential contender for the first three.

A winner at Beverley last time out, he's been there or thereabouts in all of his contests in recent times, with fourth being his worst finish this year.

At odds of 11/1, he looks like a potential each-way punt for those looking to make a profit.

However, our main selection is the aptly named Born Ruler, who is looking to turn seconds into firsts.

His last three outings have seen Sir Mark Prescott's gelding make the top two, but he's just been pipped to the post in all three.

A winner at Sandown last year, he has the calibre to win this race and his last race was in Class 3 company and he more than held his own there, so the drop back down to Class 4 could help his chances.

With the reliable Paul Mulrennan in the saddle and tidy odds of 9/2, we think that Born Ruler could rule the roost in Carlisle's showpiece race.

Suggested best bet: Born Ruler in the 15:05 at Carlisle
