Aintree racing top tip: Percussion backed to peak for Aintree target
Horse racing expert Steve Jones thinks Percussion has been building up to this race and is backing him to claim the 14:05 at Aintree on Saturday.

It isn’t unusual for specialists over these fences to bounce right back to form just for returning to this venue.
The only one in this field to have ever won over these fences before is last year’s winner of this event, Ashtown Lad.
This ground will be a lot more testing but he is a dual winner on soft ground and he has some good form on heavy, so it would be no surprise if he were to emerge as a leading player down the home straight once more.
However, he couldn’t raise his game when backed in to favourite for the Topham here in April (21f on soft) and one who can beat him this time is last year’s third-place finisher, Percussion.

Having raced prominently in this last year, Percussion became temporarily outpaced approaching the penultimate fence on the good-soft ground before staying on strongly down the stretch.
Percussion might be 4lbs worse off with Ashtown Lad this year, but he has a few things going heavily in his favour.
He arrives on the back of a highly encouraging seasonal debut which saw him finish 2nd behind Gesskille, who was runner-up in this race last year.
While the 21f trip wasn’t ideal, the heavy ground more than compensated for it. The fact that the ground is close to being heavy for this 26f contest plays to the stamina strengths
He has been trained to peak in this month each year, so this race will be a major target for him, and with ground conditions coming right in his favour, making the emphasis even more on stamina, he looks the one to be on, particularly in his current form.
Suggested bet: Percussion to win the 14:05 at Aintree
