MERCIAN HYMN (3) was in the money two starts back at Bendigo but was unable to repeat the effort last time when seventh, beaten 7 lengths, at Ballarat over 1m5f. Won't find this as tough so he will be hard to beat. STAR OF TAVISTOCK (4) scored his maiden win here last time out over this trip, getting the decision by 0.8 lengths. Is lightly raced and has plenty of scope for improvement. Shaping up nicely and he cannot be underestimated. HIS ZEDNESS (6) accounted for a maiden field over 1m3f at Ararat last start, finishing 5 lengths ahead of the nearest rival. Tom Madden was in the saddle on that occasion and retains the ride. Tougher assignment this time but is one of the main contenders. VADARCHIE (9) has not won for a long while. Last raced on March 7 when beaten 4.5 lengths into fifth at Kyneton over 1m1 1/2f. Placed to advantage and can run a better race.
