SHIRSHOV (4) has had two runs since a break, the latest a 11th over 5½f at Flemington, beaten 13 lengths. Has a strong record at the third run in so a big run is on the cards. CORE CONCEPT (13) has been kept fresh since he resumed last start and proved too strong, scoring by a long neck over 5f at Bendigo. Open to plenty of improvement and is expected to feature in the finish. JEWEL BAY (11) closed last prep with a ninth over 4f190yards at Swan Hill on June 9. Worth noting that he opened the last campaign with a minor placing at Caulfield Heath over 5f. Has a win and three minor placings at this journey from six starts and is one of the prime contenders. FISSION (5) has been thereabouts recently, the latest result a fifth beaten 3 lengths at Sandown-Hillside over 5f. Record at this track is strong. Too good to ignore.
