Premier League Darts tips: Rob Cross and Luke Littler offer biggest threat in Nottingham

Rob Cross at World Darts Championship

The Premier League Darts season resumes this Thursday night as the eight contenders head to Nottingham for Night Seven of the tungsten roadshow.

Michael van Gerwen will arrive at the Motorpoint Arena as the current league leader, though its fair to say that the Dutchman is far from his scintillating best.

Mighty Mike has lost his last four matches, averaging below 95 in all those encounters – the first time that has happened in 12 years.

Van Gerwen isn’t the only one struggling. Peter Wright is yet to win a single match in the Premier League, with the Scotsman rooted to the bottom of the table.

Welshman Gerwyn Price is second-bottom, though his semi-final run at the Belgium Darts Open last weekend was encouraging.

The Iceman defeated Gabriel Clemens, Gary Anderson and Stephen Bunting before falling short against Rob Cross.

Speaking of the former world champion, Voltage is certainly one of the men to watch this Thursday night.

Cross lost the final over in Belgium, though he averaged 108 in the showpiece and looked just as strong in the earlier rounds.

The Englishman takes on Nathan Aspinall in Nottingham as he looks to avoid a third straight defeat against the Asp.

We’re backing Cross to progress and book a semi-final meeting with Luke Litter – the same man who beat him in the Belgium Darts Open final.

The teenager was sensational on his European Tour debut and hit a nine-darter en route to his £30,000 victory.

Littler takes on the aforementioned Van Gerwen in Nottingham and we’re backing the Englishman to progress.

Should both Littler and Cross replicate their form from Belgium, expect another close encounter.

The other side of the draw makes for easier reading. With Wright, Price and Michael Smith all out-of-form, we’re backing Luke Humphries to reach the final.

With regards to the overall Night Seven winner, we’re going with Cross. The 33-year-old is getting better with ever week and it won’t be long before Voltage claims his first week win of this Premier League Darts season.
