European Darts Grand Prix tips: Martin Schindler repeat unlikely, Gerwyn Price the dangerman
The PDC European Tour continues this weekend as 48 players travel to Sindelfingen, Germany for the European Darts Grand Prix.
Martin Schindler delighted his home fans after winning the International Darts Open last weekend in Riesa.
The Wall put on a terrific display as he powered into the final before beating Gerwyn Price 8-5.
This was Schindler’s first title on the PDC European Tour and going back-to-back would certainly take some doing.
While the German fans will once again stand by his side, we like the look of last weekend’s finalist, Price.
The Welshman, who also reached the semi-finals of the German Darts Grand Prix at the start of the month, certainly loves plying his trade in the country. The Iceman won two European titles last season and they both came in Germany.
Another man worth watching is Chris Dobey. The 33-year-old enjoyed a run to the semi-finals last weekend and has also picked up a recent Players Championship event victory.
Stephen Bunting was one of our dark horse picks for the International Darts Open and the Bullet almost delivered.
The St Helens man enjoyed his own semi-final run and we certainly wouldn’t put another strong outing past him.
Looking at the list of seeded players, Michael van Gerwen is an obvious stand-out name.
The Dutchman might not be firing on all cylinders but he did claim Night 11 in the Premier League recently and cannot be counted out over in Germany.
Neither can world champion Luke Humphries. Cool Hand Luke won the second European Tour event in Munich and will be looking to add to that haul.
Despite all that, we’re sticking with Price as our main selection. The Welshman is on the verge of cooking something special with his improving form.
As for our dark horse, we’re going with Dobey to come up with a Hollywood run.
