Darts World Matchplay tips: Smith troubles Price, Clayton and Van den Bergh pile in 180s

Jonny Clayton at the Worlds Darts Championship

The PDC World Matchplay at Winter Gardens continues on Tuesday as Jonny Clayton and Dimitri van den Bergh round off a fantastic evening of darts.

There are plenty of big names in action at the World Matchplay on Tuesday as Gerwyn Price, Luke Humphries, Jonny Clayton and Dimitri van den Bergh take to the stage.

The latter pairing will square off in the headline clash of the evening which should produce plenty of big scores.

Planet Sport has identified the best bet for each of this evening’s matches.

Tuesday’s World Matchplay tips

Ross Smith +2.5 leg handicap

James Wade to beat Nathan Aspinall

Luke Humphries -2.5 leg handicap

Clayton vs Van den Bergh: Over 10.5 180s

Gerwyn Price vs Ross Smith (1915 BST)

The winner of this clash between Gerwyn Price and Ross Smith could go on to win this quarter of the draw and their first-round performances back that up, as they beat Daryl Gurney and Josh Rock 10-4.

Naturally, the Welshman is a clear favourite with the bookies, but if Smith keeps up his recent averages and takes his chances, this could go down to the wire.

Nathan Aspinall vs James Wade (2015 BST)

Ordinarily, you’d fancy Nathan Aspinall to get the better of James Wade. However, the Asp is struggling with injury and doesn’t look himself. Bookmakers have priced Wade up as the favourite to win and we agree.

The Machine feels he has a point to prove after qualifying for the World Matchplay by the skin of his teeth, but it may not take his best performance to win on Tuesday.

Luke Humphries vs Stephen Bunting (2115 BST)

Luke Humphries was sensational when beating Ricardo Pietreczko 10-4 in the previous round. There’s no need to average 109 at this tournament stage, but Cool Hand Luke did anyway.

Stephen Bunting represents a step up in quality but we’re not sure he’s in the form to keep up with a red-hot Humphries, as he made hard work of beating Ryan Joyce in the first round.

Jonny Clayton vs Dimitri van den Bergh (2215 BST)

Jonny Clayton and Dimitri van den Bergh could bring the curtain down on Tuesday’s matches with a barnstormer of a match, packed full of high-scoring and big checkouts.

The Ferrett lobbed in seven maximums in his first-round win, whilst Van den Bergh hit a nine-darter in his win over Martin Schindler. This could go the distance, so 11 180s doesn’t feel like a big ask.
