Tennis Acca tips: US Open quarterfinal picks

Novak Djokovic US Open

Planet Sport presents a sneak peak at the US Open quarter-finals and make our picks for the last eight matches and progression to the semi-finals.

The last eight of the US Open draws is finally settled and two players are three matches away from their ultimate Grand Slam glory.

The top two seeds remain in the fight on the men's draw, with the predicted Carlos Alcaraz vs Novak Djokovic still very much on.

Meanwhile, among the women, Aryna Sabalenka has been successful in her bid to unseat Iga Swiatek as world No 1, but she would love to cap that off with a second Grand Slam title.

Here we take a look at the US Open quarter-finals and make our picks for the last eight matches and progression to the semi-finals.

US Open men's: Taylor Fritz vs Novak Djokovic | Pick: Djokovic

US Open men's: Frances Tiafoe vs Ben Shelton | Pick: Tiafoe

US Open men's: Daniil Medvedev vs Andrey Rublev | Pick: Medvedev

US Open men's: Carlos Alcaraz vs Alexander Zverev | Pick: Alcaraz

US Open women's: Jelena Ostapenko vs Coco Gauff | Pick: Gauff

US Open women's: Sorana Cirstea vs Karolina Muchova | Pick: Muchova

US Open women's: Marketa Vondrousova vs Madison Keys | Pick: Vondrousova

US Open women's: Qinwen Zheng vs Aryna Sabalenka | Pick: Sabalenka

US Open men's: Taylor Fritz vs Novak Djokovic

Taylor Fritz has never beaten Novak Djokovic having met the Serbian seven times.

If Fritz can overcome Djokovic it will guarantee that an American man is in the final of the US Open as they seek to end a 20-year home title drought.

Djokovic has his own records and milestones in mind and he continues to rack up Grand Slam wins.

He has already secured the No 1 ranking and could also win a record 24th Grand Slam singles title.

US Open men's: Frances Tiafoe vs Ben Shelton

The winner of the Djokovic-Fritz battle will go on to face the winner of this All-American clash between Frances Tiafoe and Ben Shelton.

Tiafoe is aiming to reach his second US Open semi-final in as many seasons.

Meanwhile Shelton plays in his second Grand Slam quarter-final this year after a run to the last eight in Melbourne.

This will be the first meeting between these two players in competition although they have had occasion to train together.

US Open men's: Daniil Medvedev vs Andrey Rublev

An All-Russian affair will also be on the big stage soon as the top two players from that nation face off for a place in the US Open semi-finals.

Daniil Medvedev is a former champion in New York and plays very well on their fast hard courts.

Rublev has a game that is also well-suited to a fast court and we can expect an intense back and forth from the baseline.

Medvedev holds a big advantage in the head-to-head having won six of their eight meetings.

US Open men's: Carlos Alcaraz vs Alexander Zverev

Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev already have quite the rivalry brewing having faced each other five times.

Alcaraz leads but only 3-2 in his exchanges with the former world No 2 with Zverev winning their last five-setter.

However, since that meeting in Paris, Alcaraz has won three Grand Slam titles and become the world No 1 while Zverev suffered a catastrophic injury.

Zverev will be out to prove that he is still among the best players in the world but Alcaraz will take some stopping.

US Open women's: Jelena Ostapenko vs Coco Gauff

Coco Gauff is one of two American women left in the field and faces the mercurial Jelena Ostapenko for a place in the last four.

Penko power was on show when the former French Open winner ousted world No 1 Iga Swiatek in the previous round.

Gauff has so far been very consistent but Ostapenko is the biggest challenge she has had to overcome.

Ostapenko ended Gauff's run at the Australian Open earlier this season but the head-to-head is locked at 1-1.

US Open women's: Sorana Cirstea vs Karolina Muchova

Romania's Sorana Cirstea ranks as the biggest outsider remaining in the US Open draw.

Cirstea faces French Open finalist and Czech sleeper, Karolina Muchova for a place in the Grand Slam's semi-finals.

Cirstea should not be written off given that she beat Elena Rybakina and Belinda Bencic in successive rounds to reach the last eight.

Muchova hasn't played against elite quality players in truth and will need to step up to see off Cirstea.

US Open women's: Marketa Vondrousova vs Madison Keys

Another capable Czech player who has generated too much buzz this fortnight is Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova.

Vondrousova will face Madison Keys in the last eight and will be out to deny the home nation a semi-finalist.

Keys upset Pegula in the previous round with a stellar performance but won't have familiarity on her side against Vondrousova.

This will be the first meeting between the two players on the WTA Tour.

US Open women's: Qinwen Zheng vs Aryna Sabalenka

Qinwen Zheng has a couple of upsets in the bag already but her next opponent would rank as the biggest win of her career.

Zheng has run an incumbent world No 1 close on a few occassions but doesn't hold a victory over a top five player.

While the Chinese star has the quality to win multiple Grand Slams in the future she might not be ready to step up just yet.

Sabalenka's power isn't something you can really prepare for if you haven't faced her in competition and this is their maiden clash.
