US Open men: Alexandre Muller vs Novak Djokovic

Alexandre Muller has an 8-8 record this season and few would give him any hope of besting world No 2 Novak Djokovic.
A win in this match will secure a return to the No 1 ranking for Djokovic but a 24th Grand Slam will be on his mind for the fortnight.
Muller won't have any pressure on him at all but that doesn't really make his task any easier.
On any hard court, Djokovic is a handful and when the five set factor is added he should always be the favourite.

US Open men: Carlos Alcaraz vs Dominik Koepfer

Carlos Alcaraz is unlikely to still be No 1 by the end of the two week stay in New York but he will want to be a three-time Grand Slam champion.
Alcaraz starts his campaign with a first ever meeting with Germa Dominik Koepfer.
Koepfer has been in decent form but he will need Alcaraz to be well off his game to have any chance.
Alcaraz has insisted that he will be thoroughly preparing to face Koepfer.

US Open men: Roberto Carballes Baena vs Holger Rune

Holger Rune is set for another Grand Slam meeting with Roberto Carballes Baena after beating the Spaniard at Wimbledon.
The head-to-head record between the players is locked at 1-1 and this will be their first hard court meeting.
Rune hasn't won a match since his disappointing exit from Wimbledon but will be motivated to turn things around.
Carballes Baena hasn't played any hard court tennis in recent weeks with his lact action coming on the clay of Kitzbuhel/

US Open men: Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Milos Raonic

Stefanos Tsitsipas has the task of seeing off resurgent veteran Milos Raonic first up.
Tsitsipas has yet to go beyond the third round of the US Open but a first round exit would be unthinkable for him.
However, with a former Wimbledon finalist across the net, Tsitsipas will need to be at his sharpest early on.
Raonic has won both of the previous meetings between the players.

US Open women: Camila Giorgi vs Jessica Pegula

Jessica Pegula has been handed a tricky first round opponent but one that she has beaten six times in seven meetings.
Pegula ended her big title drought in Montreal which will be a boost to her ahead of her home Slam.
Giorgi lost in the first round at Wimbledon and hasn't been in the greatest touch in recent weeks.
Pegula should have her number but the experience Giorgi has makes her a bit of a terror as a first round foe.

US Open women: Elena Rybakina vs Marta Kostyuk

Elena Rybakina faces one of the higher ranked unseeded players in world No 37 Marta Kostyuk.
Kostyuk has been backed as a player with top 10 potential and she is also something of a nightmare opponent for Rybakina.
Kostyuk leads the head to head between the players 1-0 after beating Rybakina in Adelaide earlier this season.
Rybakina has complained about the hectic schedule in recent weeks and could be the top seed ripest for an upset.

US Open women: Iga Swiatek vs Rebecca Peterson

Iga Swiatek faces Swedens Rebecca Peterson with the spotlight firmly on the defending champion.
Swiatek has never met Peterson in WTA Tour competition and the gulf in class is evident.
Swiatek has a target on her back but by now she is well used to that.
The world No 1 position is up for grabs with Swiatek having to keep an eye on rival Aryna Sabalenka.

US Open women: Maryna Zanevska vs Aryna Sabalenka

Aryna Sabalenka has missed multiple chances to snatch the No 1 ranking already but has another chance at the US Open.
Sabalenka starts her campaign against Belgium's Maryna Zanevska of Belgium, a player she has never met before.
Zanevska would have more of a shot against Sabalenka on clay and will need to pray for an off day from the No 2.
Sabalenka's awesome power game and deadly serve should prove far too much for Zanevska.
