Injured Marin Cilic withdraws from Wimbledon
Former Grand Slam winner Marin Cilic is still recovering from injury and has officially withdrawn from Wimbledon 2023.
Former Wimbledon finalist Marin Cilic will miss the grass court slam due to injury.
The 2014 US Open winner began his season at an ATP 250 event in Pune, India, in January. However, after reaching the quarterfinals, he injured his right knee.
Unfortunately for the big Croatian, he has been unable to get on court since. Cilic took to Instagram to reveal his withdrawal from the grass court slam.
"I'm sad to be missing the grass season and especially Wimbledon; this is a highlight of the season for every tennis player, but I know how important it is not to rush the recovery process," wrote the 34-year-old.
"Things have generally been going well the last few weeks with my post-surgery training so I'm staying positive and focused on my long-term recovery.
"I hope that I'll be competing very soon. I miss being on Tour, the tournaments and the fans, and I can't wait to get back to all of that, to feel the thrill of stepping on court & competing. Until then, I'll keep training and sharpening my motivation. Thanks for your continued support as always!"
Cilic enjoyed a superlative run to reach the Wimbledon final in 2017, only to lose in straight sets to grass court legend Roger Federer.
