ATP Cincinnati: Alejandro Davidovich Fokina vs Tomas Martin Etcheverry
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Tomas Martin Etcheverry will meet for the right to face Novak Djokovic in his opening match in Cincinnati.
While they might be forgiven for looking ahead just a little neither player can really afford to underestimate the other.
Their only previous clash came this season on clay in Barcelona where the Spaniard prevailed in staight sets.
Etcheverry has a dismal hard court record this season winning just four of his nine matches on the surface.
ATP Cincinnati: Alex De Minaur vs JJ Wolf
Alex De Minaur was within a whisker of a top ten debut and a Masters title last week and it will take a lot for him to get up again.
However, De Minaur has been very resilient in the hard court swing to date and keeps finding a way to win in the early rounds at least.
De Minaur also owns a singles victory of Wolf from their only previous meeting in Stockholm last season.
The Australia could secure a place in the top ten with a deep run in Cincinatti and is in the form of his life.
ATP Cincinnati: Cameron Norrie vs Gael Monfils
Meanwhile, Cameron Norrie's struggles won't be helped by a horror draw that has thrown up a match against Gael Monfils.
Monfils was brilliant in Montreal last week, only losing out to eventual champion Jannik Sinner's sweet striking.
To make matters worse for Norrie he has lost both his previous singles matches against Monfils.
Norrie has lost three on the bounce and will need some effort to battle beyond the Frenchman this time.
ATP Cincinnati: Jiri Lehecka vs Taylor Fritz
Taylor Fritz should be out to prove a point after his hard court swing took a dip in Montreal.
Fritz won the title in Atlanta and reached the last four in Washington but was beaten in his second outing in Montreal.
Fritz has bested Jiri Lehecka in both their previous meetings which have come in the current season.
Lehecka has a pretty big upside and Fritz will need to be focused and clinical to put him away.
WTA Cincinnati: Danielle Rose Collins vs Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova
The American contingent will be out to step up their game this week bolstered by a big title win for Jessica Pegula.
Collins has two wins in two meetings with Pavlyuchenkova who hasn't played on the full tour since the French Open.
Collins was in action in Montreal last week, coming through qualifying to reach the last eight.
Her brave display in the loss to Iga Swiatek will be a confidence booster as she returns to home soil.
WTA Cincinnati: Daria Kasatkina vs Peyton Stearns
Daria Kasatkina and Peyton Stearns meet in one of the clashes of the day on Tuesday.
Kasatkina comfortably bested the young American when they met in Paris dropping just one game.
However, Stearns should be driven to improve on that display as she comes back to home soil as well.
Stearns did well to qualify for Montreal but lost in the opening round while Kasatkina was a quarter-finalist.
WTA Cincinnati: Jelena Ostapenko vs Karolina Pliskova
It might be fire and ice as former French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko meets former world No 1 Karolina Pliskova.
Their nine previous meetings have been fairly evenly split with Pliskova winning five against the four taken by Ostapenko.
However, Ostapenko did win the last time they clashed in Adelaide earlier this season.
Ostapenko is having the better season to date with 27 match wins to her name against the 20 notched by Pliskova.
WTA Cincinnati: Madison Keys vs Elise Mertens
Madison Keys will feel the home expectations when she takes on tricky opponents Elise Mertens.
Keys has won all three head-to-head meetings between the players but their last match was back in 2021 at Wimbledon.
Mertens has lost in back-to-back first rounds, coincidentally to the same player in Kastakina.
Keys has delivered a mixed bag since she promised a resurgence with a run to the last eight at Wimbledon.
