Man Utd vs Burnley tips and predictions: Back Clarets to boost survival hopes with surprise win

Burnley manager Vincent Kompany

Manchester United play host to Vincent Kompany’s Burnley at Old Trafford on Saturday (1500 BST) and we expect the visitors to cause problems.

Manchester United, who produced a late rally to spare their blushes against Sheffield United on Wednesday, will face relegation-threatened Burnley on Saturday.

Except for Rasmus Hojlund slapping some icing on the crumbling, overcooked cake that is Man United, we predicted exactly how that game would go.

Individual talent came to the rescue again as Bruno Fernandes struck twice on a night when United conspired to miss chance after chance while turning the gun on themselves at the other end.

It was the sixth time in seven matches that Erik ten Hag’s side have scored and conceded at least two goals, which is a trend that may continue this weekend.

Vincent Kompany’s Burnley have given themselves a chance of beating the drop by avoiding defeat in six of seven and thumping the Blades last weekend.

That said, their fixture list is not a favourable one. They’ll face Newcastle and Tottenham before their final-day showdown with Nottingham Forest.

It makes sense for the Clarets to throw the kitchen sink at this one and the combination of their recent counter-attacking play combined with United’s injuries means they have an outside chance.

The visitors have scored eight goals through different sources across their previous four away matches so we’ll start by backing these teams' recent trends to continue.

We’ll also stick with backing the visitors on the handicap because there’s never value in taking United when they’re odds on.

Burnley have shown a good level of organisation that should allow them to limit the hosts’ high-quality chances better than the Blades did.
