  • Thomas Frank Believes David Moyes Deserves More Respect For The Job He Has Done At West Ham United

Thomas Frank believes David Moyes deserves more respect for the job he has done at West Ham United

Brentford manager Thomas Frank says West Ham United counterpart David Moyes has done an "unbelievable" job at the London club and says he deserves more credit.

Moyes guided the Irons to a first trophy in 43 years last season with victory in the Europa Conference League final but has come under fire from some supporters following a winless run of eight matches.

West Ham host Brentford on Monday night and those disgruntled fans will be expecting a much-improved display from the 6-0 defeat by Arsenal at the London Stadium earlier this month when many headed for the exits at half-time.

Frank, though, sees no reason why Moyes, who revealed he has been offered a new contract, should see his position under scutiny.

“I know Moyes quite well. I like him as a person and as a coach, but even taking that aside and looking at the bigger picture, I think he deserves more credit,” Frank said.

“There are always spells in a season where things are not going the right way and there are a lot of factors that are causing that issue.

“It could be because of the head coach or manager – we have lost some games, it could be because of me – it could be because the players have not performed.

“It could be because of injury, because of scrutiny from the outside, because of some problems internally, some leadership, there are so many things affecting that.

“Even though I know that we are unbelievable and have all the power in the world as head coaches or managers, I think there is more to it than just us.

“That said, I think he (Moyes) has done a top job, there is no two ways about that.”

Frank added at a press conference: “They won a European trophy last year. Every team has a spell throughout the season when they are not perfect, maybe West Ham are going through that spell now.

“I don’t really get it (the pressure). I think under Moyes they have been finishing fifth and sixth, or sixth and seventh, I can’t remember exactly, but (that is) unbelievable.”

Brentford head across London looking to avoid a third straight defeat after losing to Manchester City and Liverpool.

Following their own inconsistent form this season, Frank’s side have been left a bit too close to the survival battle for comfort.

“We have ambitions to want to do better. Even last year, when we had a fantastic season, we pushed to see if we could get as high as possible,” Frank said.

“Every single time you lose a game, it is tough, but you need to be positive, analyse it calmly, keep sticking to your principles and what you believe.”
