Robert Lewandowski's late penalty seals dramatic win for Barcelona against Osasuna

Robert Lewandowski

In a thrilling La Liga encounter, Robert Lewandowski emerged as the hero for Barcelona, netting an 85th-minute penalty to secure a hard-fought 2-1 victory over 10-man Osasuna on Sunday.

Despite being on the back foot for much of the match at El Sadar, the reigning Spanish champions managed to break the deadlock just before halftime when Jules Kounde found the back of the net.

Osasuna fought valiantly and seemed poised to salvage a well-deserved point when Chimy Avila leveled the score in the 76th minute. However, the game took a dramatic turn when Alejandro Catena received his marching orders for fouling Lewandowski in the penalty area. The Polish striker made no mistake from the spot, securing the win for Barcelona.

This match also saw the debut of three new faces for FC Barcelona, adding fresh talent to the Catalan giants' roster. Joao Cancelo, the 29-year-old loanee from Manchester City, made his first appearance, entering the field in the 59th minute, immediately making an impact with his dynamic play at right-back. Notably, his exquisite trivela cross to Lewandowski showcased the unique qualities he brings to the team.

In the 79th minute, 23-year-old Joao Felix, on loan from Atletico Madrid, was introduced as a substitute for Oriol Romeu, injecting a dose of offensive creativity into the side. His ball control and sharpness on the pitch left a lasting impression.

Finally, veteran Spanish defender Inigo Martinez made his debut after the 90th-minute mark, bolstering the defense during the final minutes of the game. His leadership and defensive prowess were evident as he took charge of the field following his late substitution.

In other La Liga action, Portu delivered a late 88th-minute goal that sealed a 1-0 victory for Girona over Las Palmas, keeping them in second place, just two points behind Real Madrid. Meanwhile, Mallorca and Athletic Bilbao battled to a goalless draw in a closely contested match.
