Robbie Savage FA Cup selections: Man Utd to face tough challenge at Wigan

While the fight for the Premier League crown will be contested between three of four clubs, the FA Cup race is wide open.

The third round of the competition culminates on Monday night with a tasty clash between 2013 FA Cup winners Wigan Athletic and Erik Ten Hag's Man United.

Here, Savage takes a close look at a match that has the potential to be a thrilling cup tie.

 

Wigan vs Man United (Monday, 8.15pm)

All the stats suggest Manchester United should win. The last 19 meetings, Man United have won 18 and Wigan just one.

I watched Wigan this season in League One when they lost against Reading. I wasn’t that impressed with them.

But Shaun Maloney is doing okay with Wigan. They had a points deduction in League One. They’re going to comfortably stay up and this is a game that they can enjoy.

Manchester United are away from home. Wigan will fancy their chances. It will be a good atmosphere at the ground, there will be a huge away support. I just think the quality of Manchester United will shine through.

I’m going with a 3-1 Manchester United win.
