Real Madrid shuns Chelsea's Kai Havertz as striker search takes precedence

Kai Havertz of Chelsea Jan 2023

Rumours surrounding Kai Havertz's potential move to Real Madrid from Chelsea have been silenced as the Spanish giants divert their attention to strengthening their striking department.

Real Madrid's pursuit of Chelsea attacking midfielder Kai Havertz has hit a dead end, with the club opting to focus on other targets.
Reports from Jose Felix Diaz of MARCA reveal that Los Blancos have neither engaged in official negotiations nor plan to do so in the near future. The Spanish giants have set their sights on different objectives, rendering the Chelsea star an ill-fit for their plans.
Real Madrid's decision stems from their need for a new striker following a notable exodus of Karim Benzema from the department. Havertz, while widely regarded as one of the finest talents of his generation, does not offer anything beyond what they already possess. The 23-year-old German international excels as a playmaker, but Los Blancos boast an abundance of players in that role.
The recent signing of Jude Bellingham, a versatile playmaker operating in a slightly deeper position, further diminishes the purpose of pursuing Havertz. Additionally, Rodrygo Goes showcases similar qualities to the Chelsea star in the attacking half-spaces.
Club president Florentino Perez's focus lies firmly on securing Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain next year, which means big spending on attacking reinforcements this summer is off the table.
The €60 million price tag attached to Havertz serves as an additional deterrent for Real Madrid. Last season, he notched seven goals and one assist in 35 Premier League appearances for Chelsea and creating five significant scoring opportunities.
In light of these factors, Real Madrid have abandoned their pursuit of the German talent, prioritizing their search for a striker instead.
