Middlesbrough striker Matthew Hoppe joins Hibernian on loan
Middlesbrough striker Matthew Hoppe has left the Championship promotion chasers to join Scottish club Hibernian until the end of the season.
The former Schalke striker was facing fierce competition to get a starting place in Michael Carrick's squad as Chuba Akpom is having the most clinical season of his career, scoring 14 goals in the Championship so far this campaign.
Boro have also recently acquired the services of Cameron Archer on loan from Aston Villa until the end of the season which meant opportunities would've been hard to come by for the young American.
Hibs manager Lee Johnson said: "We're delighted to add Matthew to the group as he's someone that'll add extra quality in the final third."
The striker's versatility is yet another one of the reasons why Johnson feels this signing will be a significant one for Hibernian's season, and he added: "He's a talented player that can play in all three positions across our front line and someone that joins with good experience being a full US international and that has played regularly in the Bundesliga."
Former Hibernian player Oli Shaw, meanwhile, has left his current club Kilmarnock and joined Barnsley in their bid for promotion to the Championship.
A Kilmarnock statement read: "The club would like to thank Oli for his substantial contribution to a Championship-winning campaign, in which he finished as the club's top scorer.
