Man Utd still in with a shot at signing Bayern's Matthijs de Ligt

Manchester United's interest in signing Matthijs de Ligt has faced a significant hurdle as Bayern Munich have turned down a 35 million euros offer for the defender.

The bid was made in the hope of bolstering Erik ten Hag's squad, with whom De Ligt previously worked at Ajax.

The 24-year-old's potential move comes in the wake of a challenging season where he lost his place as a regular starter under former Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel.

Tuchel's preference for defenders such as Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-jae contributed to De Ligt's reduced role.

Bayern Munich's honorary president, Uli Hoeness, has expressed a desire to keep De Ligt but also didn't outright reject the possibility of his departure.

"It's possible that a defender will leave," Hoeness said. "I would have no problem if [De Ligt] stays. Personally, I would not sell Upamecano."

In recent transfer news, Manchester United have made headlines with their recent acquisition of 18-year-old defender Leny Yoro from Lille.

This move had initially been intended to secure Yoro before Real Madrid could make their move next summer.

However, the hefty price tag on Yoro and his potential future at Old Trafford have not deterred United from pursuing De Ligt.
