Leicester City agree deal to sign midfielder Oliver Skipp from Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur have accepted a bid from Leicester City for defensive midfielder Oliver Skipp meaning a transfer is imminent pending a medical, according to reports.

It is believed that Skipp has been pushing for a move away from North London in a bid to secure more first-team football after falling out of favour under manager Ange Postecoglou.

It is understood that newly-promoted Leicester was among many clubs vying for Skipp's signature and had moved to bring him to the King Power Stadium.

Skipp is set for a Leicester medical on Sunday with a deal expected to be completed before Monday's Premier League opener at home to Tottenham.

Spurs academy graduate Skipp made his professional debut in 2018 when still a teenager and will depart his boyhood club after 106 appearances.

The move is a win-win for Spurs under the new financial fair play regulations as Skipp was keen to leave and, as a home-grown talent, Tottenham will be able to spend all of the transfer fees they receive for the midfielder.

The 23-year-old will become the seventh summer arrival under new Leicester boss Steve Cooper, but will not be registered in time to feature in Monday's match with Spurs.

It has been suggested Leicester made a bid of around £20-million for Skipp, who will add some Premier League experience.

He will also bring leadership qualities to the squad after once being picked out as a future Spurs captain by Jose Mourinho during his tenure as Tottenham Hotspur manager.

The 23-year-old saw his chances of breaking into the Tottenham first team reduce even further over the pre-season transfer window with the arrivals of Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray.
