Kelechi Iheanacho looks set to boost Sevilla's attack
Kelechi Iheanacho is reportedly poised to become Sevilla's latest signing within the next few hours.
According to a report by MARCA, the Nigerian forward has reached a full agreement with the Andalusian club and is expected to travel to Seville on Tuesday to undergo a medical examination before signing his new contract as a free agent.
The parties have reportedly agreed on a two-year contract with an optional third year, making the former Leicester City player the attacker that VÃctor Orta has been seeking following the sale of En-Nesyri to Fenerbahce.
With En-Nesyri's departure, Rafa Mir's loan to Valencia, and Mariano DÃaz's exit, Sevilla's first-team squad was left with only Isaac Romero as the primary forward.
Iheanacho's arrival is intended to complement an attack where manager Garcia Pimienta prioritises forwards who can collaborate effectively with their teammates.
"Iheanacho isn't just a finisher or a penalty box poacher," Pimienta commented. "Like Isaac Romero, he has the ability to play in the attacking third and initiate offensive plays."
While his goal-scoring record may not match that of a traditional striker like En-Nesyri, Orta sought a player who could fulfil the manager's tactical requirements. The signing of the 27-year-old forward as a free agent is seen as a shrewd move by the sporting director.
"Iheanacho had other, more lucrative offers," a source close to the negotiations revealed. "But he chose to seize the opportunity to test himself in La Liga with Sevilla."
This will be Sevilla's fifth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Ejuke, who is also Nigerian and joined on a free transfer, Saul, Sambi Lokonga, and Peque. Notably, Peque is the only one of these new additions for whom Sevilla has paid a transfer fee. Orta has been resourceful in securing these signings, aiming to strengthen the squad while managing the wage bill.
Iheanacho is set to arrive in Seville today (Tuesday), adding a new dimension to Sevilla's attacking options.
