Jeremie Frimpong eyes move away from Bayer Leverkusen
Jeremie Frimpong is reportedly set on leaving Bayer Leverkusen during the summer transfer window.
The Dutch defender has expressed his desire to take the next step in his career, aiming to join one of Europe's elite clubs.
Media sources revealed that Real Madrid, Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain, and Bayern Munich were among the top clubs keen on acquiring Frimpong's services.
According to BILD, Frimpong's release clause, set at €40-45 million, was set to expire this week.
Once it expires, Leverkusen will have the liberty to negotiate a fee for the 23-year-old, with concrete discussions said to be already taking place with several unnamed potential buyers.
In May, Frimpong remained non-committal about his future when questioned about his plans for the next season. "I'm so happy here. I'm concentrating on the here and now. I don't know what will happen in the future," he remarked.
Frimpong has been instrumental in Leverkusen's success, contributing significantly during their double-winning season. He scored 14 goals and provided 12 assists in 47 appearances across all competitions, establishing himself as a crucial player for the club.
Despite his potential departure, Leverkusen seem prepared, with Arthur and Nathan Tella ready to step into the right wing-back role. Both players had shown their capability and are seen as viable replacements should Frimpong move on.
Frimpong last renewed his contract with Leverkusen in October 2023, committing to the club until 2028. However, his recent ambitions suggest he is ready for a new challenge, seeking to showcase his talents on a bigger stage.
