Chelsea news: Blues hold ‘positive’ talks with Manchester City as Raheem Sterling deal edges closer

Raheem Sterling of Manchester City

Chelsea are closing in on the signature of Raheem Sterling as the Blues look to finalise their first major signing of the summer.

Thomas Tuchel's side have been linked with a number of names during the transfer window, though they're yet to get a single signing over the line.

However, that could soon change as Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling closes in on a move to Stamford Bridge, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

The two clubs are understood to have held "positive" talks, with the Blues targeting their first major transfer under new co-owner Todd Boehly.

After seven successful seasons in Manchester, Sterling has one year left on his contract with the Citizens.

The player joined the club from Liverpool in 2015 for an initial fee of £44million. Since then, he has made 339 appearances for Man City and scored 131 goals.

Sterling's best season with the Citizens was the 2019/20 campaign, as he made 52 appearances and scored 31 goals across all competitions.

The England winger won four Premier League crowns with the club and also reached the 2020/21 Champions League final, which ended in a 1-0 defeat against Chelsea.

The Blues were expected to have a busy summer of signings, though so far, the only business done has concerned outgoings.
Romelu Lukaku, for instance, completed his loan move to Inter Milan last week. Meanwhile, the likes of Danny Drinkwater, Andreas Christiansen and Antonio Rudiger have all departed on free transfers.

With regards to possible incomings, Chelsea have been linked with the likes of Matthijs de Ligt, Jules Kounde and Paris Saint-Germain's Neymar Jr.

Nevertheless, it's Sterling who is expected to be the first signing of the summer for Tuchel's side.
