Thomas Tuchel: Former Chelsea assistant coach Anthony Barry has joined Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that former assistant coach at Chelsea, Anthony Barry, has joined him at the Bundesliga club.
Bayern Munich have appointed Anthony Barry, former assistant coach at Chelsea, as the new assistant coach to Thomas Tuchel.
Tuchel has confirmed the news in a media briefing, saying, "He has joined us - I'm very happy. We really wanted to have him with us. He has a great quality, whether it is details or set-piece situations. I've not seen such a level before."
Barry's coaching career began when he suffered a career-ending injury in his mid-twenties while playing as a midfielder for Accrington Stanley. He then decided to focus on coaching and quickly made a name for himself in the profession, rising rapidly through the levels.
Barry worked as Stephen Kenny's assistant in 2021 and was believed to have made a significant impact in the Republic of Ireland set-up. He left the role to join Roberto Martinez's Belgium backroom team ahead of the 2022 World Cup and has since followed Martinez to Portugal.
Having worked full-time at Chelsea in recent years, Barry has now joined Tuchel at Bayern, where he will bring his skills and expertise to help the club reach new heights. "He's a great addition to our coaching team," Tuchel said. "I'm looking forward to working with him and seeing what he can bring to the table."
