Permanent Jadon Sancho deal not an option for Borussia Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund's sporting director, Sebastian Kehl, has conceded that securing buy options for loanees Jadon Sancho and Ian Maatsen are not viable.
The BVB welcomed both Sancho and Maatsen during the January transfer window on loan deals until the season's end.
Maatsen's departure from Stamford Bridge stirred disappointment among fans hoping for his sustained presence on the field.
Conversely, Sancho's return to Germany from Manchester United didn't come as a shock, especially after his public fallout with coach Erik Ten Hag earlier in the season.
Despite making a promising start to his second stint at Dortmund, including two assists in his initial three league outings, Kehl recently hinted that Sancho's permanent return to the club appears improbable.
"Unfortunately for both players [Sancho and Ian Maatsen], neither option [a buy option in the loan terms] was really realistic," he told Sky Sports Germany.
"If you know what we got for Jadon Sancho two and a half years ago, then you know also that it might now be very, very difficult.
"We naturally advocated for an option with him - and also with Ian - but the negotiating position was not such that we could implement it and so we will accept it for now."
