Borussia Dortmund close to signing Yan Couto from Man City

Borussia Dortmund are on the brink of signing Yan Couto from Manchester City, with the Brazilian full-back set to undergo medical tests in Germany this week.

Renowned football journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported that while the final details of the transfer are still being negotiated, the move appears imminent.

Couto initially captured Man City's interest during his rise at Coritiba FC in Brazil. After just six months in Coritiba's first team, City snapped him up and subsequently loaned him to their sister club Girona.

His development continued with a year-long stint at Portuguese side SC Braga before returning to Girona on a two-year loan.

Last season proved to be a breakthrough for the 22-year-old full-back at Girona. Couto played a pivotal role in their impressive La Liga campaign, which saw them qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

He featured in 34 league matches, contributing significantly with one goal and ten assists.

Despite his successful loan spell, Couto does not fit into Pep Guardiola's plans for City's 2024/25 season. Consequently, the club have sought to cash in on him, valuing the young Brazilian at around €30 million.

Dortmund have been monitoring Couto for a while, aiming to bolster their right-back position. The Bundesliga club view Couto as an ideal fit for their defensive needs and have been in discussions with City for some time.

They have reportedly already tabled a bid of around €25 million for the talented full-back.

An agreement between the two clubs has been reached, though the exact transfer fee remained undisclosed. Couto is poised to travel to Dortmund to complete his medical, with both clubs ironing out the final terms of the deal, including the structure and payment conditions.

Couto's move to Dortmund marks another step in his promising career, as he looks to establish himself in one of Europe's top leagues.
