Kobbie Mainoo is an English professional football player who plays in central midfielder for Premier League side Manchester United.
The 18-year-old, who was born and raised in Stockport, joined Man United at the age of nine and signed his first professional contract with the club in May 2022.
He won the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award in 2023, an award given to the best young player at the club every year.
He made his first-team debut for club at the start of 2023 in an EFL Cup fixture against Charlton Athletic. Since then, he has impressed in over 20 appearances for the senior side.
Mainoo was called up to the England squad for their Euro 2024 warm-up friendlies, and made his international debut as a substitute against Brazil on March 23, 2024.
Youth career and Manchester United breakthrough
Raised in Cheadle Hulme, a suburb of Stockport, he played football for youth side Cheadle & Gatley Junior Football Club before he joined Manchester United at the age of nine.
Mainoo started gaining attention in the academy with his performances, especially in the EFL Trophy, and eventually he was called up to first-team training for Man United in 2022.
He was named on the bench for the first time in October 2022 for a Premier League match against Newcastle United.
Mainoo made his senior debut in January 2023 starting in a 3–0 home win over Charlton Athletic in the EFL Cup and not long after his league debut on February 19, coming on as a substitute in a 3–0 home win against Leicester City in the Premier League.

Mainoo travelled with the Manchester United squad on their 2023/24 pre-season tour in the United States, however he picked up an injury which kept him out-of-play for the start of the upcoming season.
Returning from injury, Mainoo made his first league start for Manchester United in the 2023/24 season in a 3–0 Premier League victory away to Everton, in which he received the man of the match award.
He made his UEFA Champions League debut in November 2023, coming off the bench against Galatasaray in a 3-3 draw.
In January 2024, Mainoo scored his first goal for the club in a 4–2 win away to Newport County in the FA Cup.
A few days after the Newport game, Mainoo scored his first Premier League goal in a 4–3 away victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers, with the winning goal in the seventh minute of stoppage time.
He danced past the Wolves defence to curl a low driven finish into the far corner and that goal has since been awarded the Premier League Goal of the Month for February 2024.
Mainoo also starred in Man United’s thrilling victory over rivals Liverpool, in which he started the game but came off before Antony’s late equaliser to send the game to extra-time.
International career
Mainoo has represented England at Under-17, Under-18 and Under-19 level.
In March 2024, Mainoo was called up to the first-team squad for the first time for England’s friendlies against Brazil and Belgium.
He made his debut for England, coming off the bench in the 75th minute against Brazil at Wembley, in which they lost 1-0.

Mainoo’s parents are from Ghana, and he has 1.7million followers on Instagram.
His older brother, Jordan Mainoo-Hames, appeared as a contestant on Love Island in 2019.
