David de Gea considering MLS switch: Former Manchester United Star could be Stateside bound

Spanish international keeper David de Gea continues to look for a new club, having spent last season kicking his heels as a free agent, and now speculation is rife about a possible move to the MLS.

The talented keeper spent 12 seasons at Old Trafford, racking up 545 appearances, before his contract came to an end at the close of the 2022/23 campaign, and since then the 33-year-old has been waiting for the call to get his career back on track.

There has been interest from several clubs including the Saudi Pro League and Italy's Serie A, while a move to Inter Miami to join Lionel Messi and co. is also a distinct possibility.

Fans of the MLS who are keen to place a bet on their favourite team can do so with the added knowledge and exclusive deals found here on all the best US betting sites.

Major League Soccer has certainly received a big boost from the arrival of Messi, and crowds in stadiums are up, as is interest in making wagers on game outcomes and longer-running outright bets, with the season already in full swing.

Though David de Gea has many options ahead of him, he is apparently not keen on returning to England, so that takes one potential direction off the table.

As a goalkeeper, 33 is no age, and the former Premier League title winner still has a lot to offer, so it's a little surprising that he is still without a club.

Though De Gea had plenty of detractors during his lengthy spell at United, he was still, at his peak, one of the best in the business. He won the Premier League Golden Glove in 2017/18 and in his final season at Old Trafford.

A move is imminent, and to his credit De Gea didn’t use his departure as a chance to attack the club for not trying to keep him longer; instead, he chose the opportunity to show his appreciation towards Manchester United and their supporters.

“I just wanted to send this farewell message to all Manchester United supporters. I would like to express my unwavering gratitude and appreciation for the love from the last 12 years. We’ve achieved a lot since my dear Sir Alex Ferguson brought me to this club," he said.

"I took incredible pride every time I pulled on this shirt to lead the team, to represent this institution, the biggest club in the world, was an honour only bestowed upon a few lucky footballers.

“It’s been an unforgettable and successful period since I came here. I didn’t think from leaving Madrid as a young boy, we would achieve what we did together.

“Now, it’s the right time to undertake a new challenge, to push myself again in new surroundings. Manchester will always be in my heart, Manchester has shaped me and will never leave me. We’ve seen it all.”

During the first season without De Gea between the sticks, Erik ten Hag’s side conceded a massive 58 Premier League goals - the highest number since the late 1970s. Perhaps the Dutch boss should have done more to retain his services.
