With the January transfer window just around the corner, Planet Sport takes a look at six Brits who could return home for the new year.

Getting business right in the early weeks of the new year could prove pivotal for a number of clubs.

For instance, the likes of Newcastle are expected to be the busiest club in the market as they look to boost their squad and secure Premier League survival in the second half of the season.

Others, such as Manchester United, will also be looking to strengthen as they attempt to claw their way back into the top four.

With that in mind, here's a look six British stars who could make a move back to their homeland during the January transfer window.

Aaron Ramsey

It appears that one of the most expensive signings in January could be the acquisition of Aaron Ramsey.

While Juventus are prepared to let the Welshman leave on a free - despite having 18 months left on his contract - it's Ramsey's wage demands that make for eye-watering reading.

The 30-year-old is expected to cost his new employers - whoever that may be - a perplexing £42million in wages. No wonder Juve want to get rid.

So, who are the clubs crazy enough to try and make this transfer happen? Well, it's the truly desperate ones.

Everton and Newcastle are reportedly the main players involved in the race to sign the Welsh international.

Should one of these teams agree to pay Ramsey his £230,000 weekly salary, they will be handing the player his second stint in the Premier League after his 11-season spell with Arsenal.

Jude Bellingham

Liverpool and Manchester United appear to be the leading contenders to sign one of the hottest properties in world soccer - Jude Bellingham.

The Reds might not have the spending power of their rivals, but the one ace up their sleeve is the former Borussia Dortmund boss, Jurgen Klopp.

The German not only offers connections to Bellingham's current employers, but he also offers stability and a proven track record of promoting and improving young stars.

Manchester United, on the other hand, are far from that. The club are currently led by an interim manager - something that doesn't exactly scream stability - while the prospects of progression for young talent look limited; especially if you look at someone like Donny van de Beek.

Whatever happens with Bellingham in January, one thing's for sure - sooner or later Bellingham will make his return to the British Isles and become a Premier League star.

Kieran Trippier

During the last transfer window, there was a lot of talk about Atletico Madrid and England defender, Kieran Tripper.

The fight for his signature appears to be intensifying with the likes of Manchester United, Newcastle and Everton battling to sign the 31-year-old.

For the last two and a half seasons, Trippier has enjoyed life at Atletico Madrid where he has made 83 appearances across all competitions.

The England international last played Premier League soccer in 2019 during his four-season spell at Tottenham Hotspur.

Considering the clubs linked with Trippier are in desperate need of defenders, you can rest assured his name will be a prevalent one among January's transfer headlines.

Etienne Green

Saint-Etienne are in the midst of a disastrous Ligue 1 season, but that hasn't stopped goalkeeper Etienne Green from being linked with Premier League clubs.

West Ham and Tottenham are two teams who are reportedly interested in the Colchester-born 21-year-old and a move in January is not out of the question.

In a recent interview with TalkSport, Green revealed his ambition to one day play in the Premier League. What's more, he went on to state that his uncle is a West Ham supporter.

With Saint-Etienne rooted to the bottom of the Ligue 1 table, there's no reason why we couldn't see the England U21 international make a move in the early weeks of 2022.

Patrick Roberts

Just a few years ago, Patrick Roberts was on the books of Manchester City and many touted the winger as the next big thing.

Despite his promise, the 24-year-old is yet to deliver on expectations. As things stand, the player is out on loan at Ligue 1 club Troyes. However, after failing to make the first team, Roberts is currently trying to resurrect his career in the club's reserves side.

With things not going to plan in France, it wouldn't be a surprise to see the former Celtic player back on British shores.

Question is, who would be willing to take a gamble on the Man City talent?

Reports linked the player with a return to Celtic last summer. Considering Roberts enjoyed his best professional playing spell in Glasgow, that may be his best option.

Angel Gomes

Back in May 2017, Angel Gomes made his Manchester United first team debut. At the time, the attacking midfielder was just 16 years old and became the youngest player since Duncan Edwards in 1953 to play for the Red Devils.

Despite his obvious promise and United's continuous efforts to sign the player to a new contract, the teenager decided to continue his development abroad.

A move to France swiftly followed where he joined Lille OSC. The club sent the player on loan to Portuguese side Boavista where Gomes certainly made an impression.

This season, the 21-year-old is back at Lille and recently got on the scoresheet in the club's 3-1 win over Wolfsburg in the Champions League.

His effort got a lot of United fans talking about potentially luring Gomes back to Old Trafford. Should the player continue to impress, there will certainly be growing interest from across the channel - and not only from Manchester.
