Richarlison's fitness woes add to Tottenham's striker shortage
Tottenham's Ange Postecoglou has admitted Richarlison isn't fit for 90 minutes, while Dominic Solanke's ankle injury adds further complications to team selection.
Solanke is a forward who, aside from a brief one-year loan spell in the Eredivisie with Vitesse, has spent his career playing his football in England for Chelsea, Liverpool, Bournemouth and Tottenham.
He struggled for game time at Chelsea and Liverpool, but moving to Bournemouth changed his career path for the better.
He scored 44 goals in two Championship seasons on the south coast and took that goalscoring form into the Cherries return to the top flight, receiving the Premier League player of the month award in December 2023.
In the 2023/24 season, he scored 21 goals in all competitions for Bournemouth and his performances earned him a move to Tottenham in a deal worth £65million in August 2024.
Solanke enjoyed plenty of success when playing for England at youth level, and was a key part of their 2014 European Under-17 Championships and 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup triumphs.
He made his full England debut as a substitute against Brazil in 2017.
Solanke’s footballing career at youth level began when he joined Chelsea’s under-eight team back in 2004. He went on to spend 10 years in the Blues’ academy before signing his first professional contract with the club in September 2014.
The forward impressed for the under-18s team in the 2013/14 campaign when not only did he score 20 goals in 25 appearances but he also helped his team win the FA Youth Cup when he netted two late goals including the winner in a 7-6 aggregate victory against their West London rivals Fulham in the final at Stamford Bridge.
Despite officially signing his first professional contract at the beginning of the 2014/15 season, Solanke still mainly carried on playing for Chelsea’s under-19s team throughout the next year and he managed yet another excellent campaign which was full of great achievements.
He once again helped his team win the FA Youth Cup for the second-consecutive season, and played a huge part in his side winning the UEFA Youth League where he was the top goal-scorer with 12 goals in nine appearances.

Despite only ever making one appearance in the Chelsea first team, it turned out to be a landmark one.
It came on October 21, 2014 when Solanke came on as a substitute to make his senior debut in the Blues’ 6-0 Champions League group-stage triumph over Slovenian club NK Maribor.
In doing so he became Chelsea’s youngest-ever player to appear in a Champions League game at just 17 years and 37 days.
Solanke was sent out on a season-long loan to Dutch club Vitesse at the beginning of the 2015/16 campaign.
This turned out to be his first season playing regular football at professional level with the forward netting seven goals in 27 appearances in all competitions for the Eredivisie outfit.
After failing to make a single appearance in any competition for Chelsea during their Premier League title winning 2016/17 campaign, Solanke moved to Liverpool once his contract with the Blues expired in the summer of 2017.
The Reading-born forward made 27 appearances in all competitions for the Reds during the 2017/18 campaign and he scored his first and only goal for the club in their 4-0 victory over Brighton on the final day of the Premier League season.
A goal that confirmed Jurgen Klopp’s team would be playing in the Champions League the following season.
Solanke didn't play a single minute of football for the Reds in the first half of the 2018/19 campaign and was sold to fellow Premier League club AFC Bournemouth for a reported fee of £19 million in January 2019.
It took Solanke a while to find his feet on the south coast.
He only managed to score four times in his opening 46 appearances in all competitions for Bournemouth and was part of squad that were relegated to the Championship at the end of the 2019/20 season.
It turned out that the step down to the second-tier of English football did him the world of good as goals finally started to flow.
Despite the Cherries failing to get promoted at the first time of asking in the 2020/21 season, it still turned out to be a solid one for Solanke on a personal level as he bagged 15 goals the Championship which made him the club’s joint-top goal-scorer for the campaign along with Arnaut Danjuma.
The 2021/22 campaign saw Solanke rise to another level as he finished as the club’s top goal-scorer and almost doubled his goal tally from the previous season, netting 29 times in the Championship as the club finished second in the table and gained automatic promotion back to the Premier League.
With Solanke back in the Premier League in the 2022/23 season, it was his chance to prove that he could score goals at the elite level and while the campaign didn't turn out to be prolific in terms of his goal-scoring numbers, he netted six times in 33 league appearances and helped the club avoid relegation.
The 2023/24 season was an opportunity for Solanke to kick on from a promising previous season and after 14 games in all competitions he had netted 12 goals. He also scored his first-ever career hat-trick in a 3-2 win at Nottingham Forest.
In December 2023, Solanke became the first Bournemouth player to win a Premier League Player of the Month award after scoring six goals in seven games for the Cherries during the month.
Solanke scored 21 goals in all competitions for Bournemouth in the 2023/24 season – including 19 in the Premier League.
On August 10, 2024, Tottenham completed the signing of Solanke on a six-year deal for a fee that could eventually be worth £65million, with Spurs spending an initial £55m and a further £10m included in the transfer as add-ons.
Solanke had scored 77 goals in 214 appearances for the south-coast club.
Solanke has represented England at all youth levels with one of his biggest contribution coming in the European Under-17 Championships in 2014.
He finished the joint-top goal-scorer with four goals including netting in the semi-final win over Portugal. The forward was also named the England Men’s Youth Player of the Year for 2014.
Solanke also played a key role in England winning the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2017. He bagged four goals in the tournament including two in their 3-1 semi-final triumph over Italy.
